It can't happen here?

Herewith a column from prominent libertarian conservative Paul Craig Roberts that bears reading. Note the overlap with some of the aspects of concern about rising American tribalism and fascism that interested me in reading Tom Frank's What's the Matter With Kansas?, minus the simplistic view of economics and the question-begging "false consciousness" rendering of Fox News-style ideology.

Roberts has been thrilling me since about Thanskgiving time.

He's been a regular on CounterPunch.org, a news magazine run by the Nation's Alexander Cockburn and Jeffrey St. Clair.

He's also been highlighted on antiwar.com for the same article you link.

A nicer read might be "It Can't Happen Here."

I doubt we are quite the same generation, so maybe Sinclair Lewis was required reading in your educational experience.

Had to add this Lewis quote... "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross" -- Sinclair Lewis
